Start with a quilt design.
Quilt designs come from many sources — historic quilts, found patterns, purchased quilt kits, or an inspired design of your own creation. Whatever your starting point,  QuiltSandwich supports much of the preparation effort for quilt projects.
Just to be clear — The QuiltSandwich app is not a quilt designer. It does not provide block designs.
There are marvelous resources available to quilters to design quilts and blocks — from fancy quilt design programs, to specialty graph paper designers like QuiltPaper, to books, to treasured antique quilts.

Enter pieces and fabrics.
QuiltSandwich works with finished sizes so you can pull dimensions directly off designs, patterns and kits. Cutting diagrams show you how to fold and cut the fabric to get that number of pieces from the yardage or FatQ.
Cut fabric with confidence.
Cut knowing the fabric choices are right and the yardage for pieces, binding, backing and batting will be:
  • Enough to cut and sew using your favorite methods.
  • Enough to create the quilt in a kit.
  • Enough after tweaking this pattern to a larger or smaller size.
  • Enough.
Print or Share project.
Print when you're ready. Share as a PDF or PNG. Share project with another quilter who has QuiltSandwich.

How will YOU use QuiltSandwich?

QuiltSandwich is the tool box quilters want because it was inspired by a quilter.
  • Some quilters use QuiltSandwich's Yardage Calculator to confirm kit instructions because it creates a cutting diagram that shows you how to get the number of pieces promised.
  • Many quilters use QuiltSandwich at the cutting table to better estimate how much yardage to buy.
  • Quilters use it for fabric selection because QuiltSandwich's digital library lets you carry with you all your fabric clippings on your iPhone.
  • QuiltSandwich gives quilters confidence to make the leap to plan to creating their own quilt designs because it handles the quilt math and creates cutting diagrams that help confirm plans before cutting.

Unique notions with QuiltSandwich

QuiltSandwich replaces yardage tables, formula charts, and envelopes of fabric clippings with a set of tools that are always available on your iPhone or iPad.

Calculators you can trust

Picture
Yardage Calculator figures yardage from finished sizes using your allowances.
Picture
Cutting Diagram shows the yardage calculator's assumptions on how to fold and cut fabric to get the number of pieces needed — as well as show the size and amount of scrap to expect.
Picture
SIZE IT! helps you resize projects. Enter an original side length and the desired length to get the percentage size change.
Picture
Triangle Calculators for Half Rectangle, Half Square & Corner, and Quarter Square & Side Setting. Enter finished size and seam allowance to get dimensions for cut size.

Help with fabric selection and purchase + Compare tool

Picture
Fabric Stash lets you take your fabrics with you. Just snap a picture to add, compare, and manage swatches.
Picture
Color Mix displays the proportion of colors of all the fabrics in the quilt top fabrics including binding. It is a way to check a quilt top's color balance before fabric purchase (or cutting)!
Picture
Color Mix grey scale option shows the value of the fabrics — light to dark. It is a way to check a quilt top's tonal balance before fabric purchase (or cutting)!

Fabric lists for each phase of the project

Picture
Fabric List PDF is a list of all fabrics where all the pieces that share a particular fabric are listed with that fabric. This list can be especially helpful at the cutting table!

Tools for project organization and planning

Picture
Journal is a place to keep pictures and make notes about your quilt project. It is a good reference long after you've given a quilt away.
Picture
Pattern PDF makes it easy to view or print all key project documents: Journal, Fabric List, and Cutting Diagrams.

Pixel Quilt how-to-guide has instructions on how to create a Pixel Quilt using the apps QuiltSandwich and Color Hints Mosaic.

Standard Features

  • The Yardage Calculator figures yardage using the Finished Size and Number of Pieces for Rectangles or Squares, Triangles, Sashing, Borders, Binding, Backing, and Batting. Fabric can be calculated in Yardage or Fat Quarters. Adjust settings for Seam, Shrinkage, Selvage and Cut Edge allowances for unique projects or fabrics.
  • The Yardage Calculator has two cutting diagram settings, find least yardage or for one-way fabrics force layout to crosswise grain.
  • Yardage is calculated for each unique piece shape. (When a fabric is used by multiple pieces, it may be possible to purchase less fabric by considering the scrap shown in the individual cutting diagrams.)
  • Fabric images are added from the iPhone or iPad image library. Fabrics can be added immediately to a project or added to the Fabric Stash and later assigned to projects.
  • Compare fabric images side-by-side.
  • Check quilt top color and tone balance with Color Mix.
  • Settings defined in QuiltSize app can be exported into QuiltSandwich. During the import all the pieces, plus binding, backing and batting are added. Placeholder blocks must be replaced with the planned block pieces.
  • Pixel Quilts designed in Color Hints Mosaic app can be exported to QuiltSandwich and a Journal is created with the pattern. Pieces are listed with color tiles from Color Hints Mosaic and their yardage.
  • Share and Archive tool offers two features. Share a QuiltSandwich pattern to another QuiltSandwich user or share to another device using email or Archive.
  • App Images manager tool manages the images imported into QuiltSandwich. It does NOT affect images in the Photo Library.
  • No ads.
Check out all our tools for quilters — QuiltPaper, QuiltSandwich and QuiltSize. QuiltSize helps answer the question, "How many blocks do I need?". QuiltPaper offers graph paper layouts uniquely suited for quilters. Each app is unique and their development was guided by a quilter. All were designed to help you spend more of your quilting time creating and sewing.
